Nonprofit / Road Safety Advocacy

Building a Road Safety App for a National Nonprofit: iOS and Android with Flutter

  • Live on both platforms

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Client: American United Against Destructive Driving (AUADD)
Industry: Nonprofit / Road Safety Advocacy
Project type: Flutter mobile app (iOS + Android)
Platform: App Store + Google Play
Results: Live on both platforms

Mission

AUADD works to reduce deaths caused by distracted, drunk, and reckless driving across the United States.

They needed a mobile app to distribute safety content, support advocates, and make road safety resources easy to reach from a phone.

Budget and Platform Constraint

Nonprofit tech budgets are real constraints. AUADD needed a professionally built app for both iOS and Android, but couldn’t pay for two separate native development efforts.

Flutter solved this. One codebase, both platforms, significantly reduced development cost without sacrificing quality.

App Features

Cross-platform Flutter app (iOS + Android) One codebase deployed to both the App Store and Google Play. Users on either platform get the same experience, same features, same performance.

Safety content hub An in-app feed presents road safety education, statistics, and advocacy materials in short, shareable cards.

Community features The app supports nonprofit engagement by giving users a focused mobile place to access campaign content and awareness materials.

Push notifications Alert system for safety campaigns, awareness events, and new content releases.

Clean, mission-aligned design The app’s visual design communicates the urgency of the mission without being heavy-handed. Simple, accessible, and fast to navigate.

Technical Stack

  • Framework: Flutter (Dart)
  • Platforms: iOS (App Store) + Android (Google Play)
  • Push notifications: Firebase Cloud Messaging

Results

  • Live on App Store and Google Play
  • Part of AUADD’s broader digital presence that drives 20K+ monthly visitors

Why Flutter Fit the Budget

Flutter delivered iOS and Android versions for roughly the cost of one native platform. That fit a nonprofit funded through grants and donations.

The app loads quickly, handles animations smoothly, and runs on older iPhones and Android devices.
